Temporary transfer to Household and Miscellaneous Goods Division, Consumer Goods Industries Bureau (previous name), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (responsibilities included: promotion of traditional craft industries (including "Karatsu Ware", "Yaeyama Jofu", "Ouchi Lacquer Ware", etc., as the METI-designated products); and promotion of improvement of office environment).

Appointed as Head of Design Policy Office (in charge of 1998 Design Act Amendment, etc.).

Participated in Diplomatic Conference for Adopting New Act "Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs" throughout the agenda as a representative of the government of Japan.
